A decent option for Pakistani cuisine in the Sports City area that doesn’t break the bank either. Copper Kettle is located in Canal Residences West
The Food:
We tried a variety of the dishes on their menu including barbequed meats, vegetarian and non-vegetarian curries and even a few Indo-Chinese options. Here’s a breakdown of what we tasted:
Mixed BBQ Grill: The meats were all cooked well and it is a decent mix overall. It was definitely a favourite on the table.
Green Karahi: Even for the spice lovers, this might be a bit over the top as it’s quite overpowering with green chilis, but it’s still very tasty so you can’t help but keep eating.
Chicken Green Chili Lemon: Another recommended dish and it’s something a little different from the usual dishes.
Butter Chicken: We absolutely love our butter chicken so we do tend to be extremely picky about the dish. Unfortunately this one didn’t live up to our expectations as it was too sweet for our liking. The chicken was cooked well though.
Paneer Masala: Unfortunately this dish was also quite sweet for our taste.
Cashew Nut Chicken: It had a nice flavour and a decent amount of cashew nuts in ratio to the chicken pieces.
Egg Fried Rice: Not bad, felt something was missing though but it does the job as an accompaniment with an Indo-Chinese main dish.
Chicken Biryani: The biryani was nice, the rice was well cooked. Good option at a decent price. They also have a mutton biryani on the menu.
Mutton Balti Gosht: The pieces of meat were a bit too fatty for our liking but the curry was delicious.
Palak Paneer: Not the best we’ve had but it’s pretty tasty and there’s a decent amount of paneer pieces in the dish.
Mixed breads: They have the basic options of naans and rotis, including a cheese naan which we really enjoyed and definitely recommend. They definitely didn’t skimp out on the cheese and when warm you get a great cheese pull.
The desserts:
A limited dessert menu, but they’ve got the popular options covered. We tried the Gulab Jamun which had a nice soft texture, Sooji Halwa which was not overly sweet and would be a good option for those who prefer desserts that are not heavy on the sugar. While T’s favourite was the Gulab Jamun, M definitely preferred the Kheer. Although we wished it had a bit more crushed nuts, the thick porridgy texture was good and it had a nice sweet flavour overall.
The drinks:
They have some nice options for drinks including fresh juices, a desi favourite: fresh lime soda and mixes such as the Mint Margarita. While the fresh watermelon juice we tried was good, the margarita was a bit disappointing as it seemed a bit watered down and with no flavour of lime as expected.
The venue:
A decent open space with big windows facing the canal so there’s a good amount of natural light coming in. Nothing exceptional but there’s comfortable seating and it’s good for large groups too.
How to get there:
Copper Kettle is located in the Shop 5E & 6E in the European building of Canal Residences West (CRW). It’s on the front side of the buildings facing the canal, so walk through the passageways in between the buildings to come through to the walkway in the front.
By Car: Head towards Sports City and enter through the side that’s opposite Motor City. You can see the CRW buildings as you get into Sports City. Keep going straight down and take a u-turn from the roundabout that’s after the bridge. Take the first right and then the first left. You should see an Al Maya supermarket in the Venetian building (the tallest building in CRW). You can park in the parking lot in front of the supermarket or in the street parking at the back of CRW.
By Cab: Tell your cab driver to enter Sports City from the side that’s opposite Motor City. As you drive through you will be able to see the buildings on the left side facing the canal. Follow the instructions as mentioned above.
By Public Transport: The area isn’t very public transport friendly as there are no metro stations close by. Bus F37 is does have drop offs close by after which you will have to walk the rest of the way. Your best bet is still driving or taking a taxi.
