Part of Jumeirah beach road’s many small eateries, Abu Jad stands out as a small outlet that serves popular Arabic dishes. The menu isn’t over the top and it’s quite affordable overall. They deliver as well.
The Food:
Fattet Hummos with Tahini: We recently started trying out this dish at Arabic restaurants as it’s hearty and delicious when done right. The one at Abu Jad didn’t disappoint. The consistency was great and it had a good amount of tartness without being too overpowering.
Foul Abu Jad: not a bad dish. We liked the addition of fresh parsley on the top. It’s a good appetizer.
Chicken Shawarma Sandwich: it comes cut up in slices with a side of French fries and garlic paste. It’s a good shawarma. T found it to be a bit dry but it was still quite flavourful and thankfully not bland.
Cheese Mana’eesh: a decent manakish but not the best we had. We would have liked more cheese on it.
The desserts:
Lotus rice pudding: this dessert is basically rice pudding with a lotus sauce on top along with lotus biscuit crumbs. It’s not that sweet which is nice but we would have liked maybe a layer of the lotus sauce or biscuits within the pudding.
Umm Jad special sweet: a special dessert indeed! A coconut type pudding served in a hot skillet and served with hot sugar syrup poured all over it so that every bite is moist and sweet. Definitely out favourite from the two.
The drinks:
Turkish Coffee: a delicious coffee served in a traditional Turkish coffee pot with a semolina biscuit on the side. It was a good accompaniment to the meal.
How to get there:
Abu Jad is on Jumeirah road in the direction of Dubai (heading north), opposite Dubai London Hospital, and is about a 5 minute drive from Madinat jumeirah. If you decide to drive there is plenty parking around. Just keep heading north on Jumeriah road till you see Abu Jad on the right. There is a bus station very close by called “Saeed Bin Huzeim Masjid 2” and another one called “Umm Suqeim, Library 2” though the former is much closer. The following buses stop on both stations: 8, 81, 88, however, bus X28 also stops at “Umm Suqeim, Library 2”.
