800 Degrees Neapolitan Pizzeria, DCC

We visited 800 Degrees Neapolitan Pizzeria for a blogger meet* a few days ago. It was a first for us and was such great fun that we can’t wait to do it again.  Having ordered from 800 Degrees Pizzeria a few times before, we knew the food would be quite good, however this was the first time we actually dined in. Dining in gave us the opportunity to try a variety of dishes, besides the usual pizza and pasta, while also enjoying the venue and service.

Our verdict: 800 Degrees Neapolitan Pizzeria has a great selection of food across the board. Go for the pizzas but definitely try their soups, salads, drinks and desserts. A bit of everything!

The Food

As part of the blogger meet we were presented with a semi-set menu. It was a special tasting menu with a few options that we could choose from. These were the ones we ordered for ourselves.

Zuppa Di Pomodoro [AED 22]: This tomato soup was delicious. Made with Italian plum tomatoes blended with onion, celery, basil, mashed potato and carrots. It was rich and full of flavour. Great creamy, smooth texture and just the right amount of sourness to counter the sweetness tomatoes tend to have. Delicious start to the meal.

Cherry Tomato & Pesto Burrata [AED 34]: T is a huge fan of Burrata, so when given the option we selected this dish. It’s a fairly simple salad that comes with a toasted ciabatta bread slice. We thoroughly enjoyed the Burrata as it was very well prepared and went really well with everything on the plate. We felt that the pesto was missing some punch, it was a bit bland and something was definitely missing, but we couldn’t quite put a finger on it, perhaps some more garlic or seasoning. Having said that, we still enjoyed it as the rest of the dish held its own.

Ricotta Cheese Bread [AED 28]: This dish is an absolute must when visiting 800 Degrees Neapolitan Pizzeria. The bread was nice and crunchy on the outside, while the stuffing was well cooked and delicious. The dish is basically a calzone type appetizer, pizza bread stuffed with ricotta cheese, kamalata olives, sun dried tomatoes, rosemary and garlic, A nice, relatively simple dish with some great flavours. Also do try it with the spicy sauce/dip that 800 Degrees Neapolitan Pizzeria has, it complements it really well.

Bufalina Base Pizza with Sun Dried Tomatoes and Basil Leaves [AED 48 + 4]: We love the simplicity of a cheese pizza and usually we would go with the ever so popular Margherita but we decided on this instead and thankfully it paid off. We were not disappointed. Delicious creamy buffalo mozzarella over a tomato base, with sun dried tomato slices providing texture and fresh basil leaves to bring some freshness to the dish.

The Drinks

Passion Fruit Iced Tea [AED 14]: The ice tea was quite refreshing and tasty. The drink was a bit on the sweeter side, but T enjoyed it nonetheless.

San Pellegrino Limonata [AED 12]: Apparently a popular drink order at the pizzeria, its a mild lemon soda which surprisingly went well with the carb-heavy meal.

The Dessert

Tiramisu [AED 25]: Being one of T’s favourite desserts, this is our go to dessert at every Italian eatery. Vincenzi biscuits, fresh egg, sugar, mascarpone cheese, americano coffee and cocoa powder. Divine! It all came together really well. Moist layers of biscuit and the cheese mixture, great flavour of coffee without it being overpowering and a generous dusting of cocoa powder to top it all off. We would definitely order this again for sure.

Service

The service was good, the staff were helpful considering we were a group of over 10 people. The servers also made great suggestions to help with our orders as well as explaining the menu.

The Venue

The restaurant is located in the Deira City Centre mall so obviously it can become quite noisy, especially if you’re seated at of the tables in front of the restaurant. The decor is simplistic in keeping it in line with their branding which is black and white. The floors are a black and white checkered pattern, and there’s bright warm lighting overhead. There is wooden paneling across the walls which are decorated with pizza oven paddles and large quirky lines such as “Keep Calm and Gluten Free”. It’s a nice space for gatherings with friends or family.

To Book or not to Book

Considering the location and the fact that they do deliveries, we don’t think there would be any issue in getting a table. However if you plan on going there with a large group of people, it might be safer to call them up and book a table.

How to Get there

By Car: As it is part of the Deira City Centre mall, park in parking structure P4 (the cinema multilevel parking) as it’s the closest to the restaurant.

By Cab: The destination is Deira City Centre, ideally get dropped off near the cinema side, on the ground level is Max fashion and Boots pharmacy, mid level is Forever 21 and the top level which is where you need to go, has New Look and Axiom, the restaurant will be towards the left and then on your right side at the end of the row of eateries.

Public Transport: This location is definitely metro friendly. Take the red line and get off at the Deira City Centre station, Exit towards Deira City Centre, take the escalator up to the cinema level and walk straight down, the restaurant will be on your left side.
